Gemotions

Everything felt like a chore, a burden, a Sisyphean task for Emily. The simplest decision felt impossible. She stared at Mark, who was animatedly reliving an experience they shared.

“Remember that epic camping trip? You were so brave, Emily! You faced that thunderstorm head-on! You were the one who calmed everyone down!" Mark was practically vibrating with excitement.

Emily closed her eyes, trying to conjure the memories. She did recall the rain, the flashes of lightning, the oppressive darkness. All she could recall was a sense of utter despair, the chilling dampness, and a desperate need to find somewhere dry and safe.

“I don’t recall feeling very calm,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. The memory of the fear overwhelmed her, and the words felt like lead weights on her tongue.

Mark looked surprised. "But you were! You were the epitome of composure! You were so strong."

She felt a wave of dizziness, a sense of disconnect.
