The world felt muted, as though someone had turned down the volume. Liam had just discovered the online publication of his old diary. He sat at the table, his coffee growing cold, feeling as though his blood had turned to cement.

His gaze drifted to the window, where the leaves on the trees swayed gently in the breeze. He felt no connection to them, no desire to move, to participate. He was trapped.

He reached for his phone, but his fingers felt heavy, clumsy. Even the smallest action required a monumental effort. He knew his friends would be in contact soon. But right now he couldn't face them.
