Gemotions

John felt like he was wading through molasses. Every movement was an undertaking, a battle against an invisible force. He sat at the kitchen table, staring blankly at the bowl of cereal in front of him. The milk seemed to weigh down the spoon.

Suddenly, a hesitant Korean phrase echoed from the living room. "Jagiya, are you awake?"

His head jerked up. His partner, Sarah, stood in the doorway, a shy smile on her face. Her attempt at speaking his native language was adorable, yet incredibly startling.

John slowly put down his spoon. "Sarah... what was that?" The words felt thick in his throat.

She blushed. "I... I've been learning Korean. I thought it might be… nice." She paused, then, "Let's eat Korean food tonight? I can try to order!"

John let out a long, slow breath, a faint smile playing at his lips. The sudden energy in Sarah's eyes was... surprising.
