The sun was shining, but Emily felt no warmth. The house was finally hers, a fresh start, yet a profound sense of weariness clung to her. She moved through the rooms, the boxes of her things like shackles dragging her down. Even the joy of unpacking felt distant. Her limbs felt heavy and unresponsive.

In the master bedroom, she leaned against the closet wall, considering whether to bother with hanging the clothes yet. The cool wall felt inviting. Her fingers brushed against a small, almost imperceptible bump. She pressed it, and a section of the wall slid aside, revealing a small, secret room.
