Gemotions

Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the bleakness inside Mara. Her brain felt like a swamp, slow and murky. She could barely remember what she’d eaten for breakfast. She shuffled along the street, head bowed, the brim of her hat doing little to protect her from the elements.

The bulky wallet practically leaped out at her from the muddy ground. She bent, the action deliberate and slow, almost a struggle. Inside, a considerable amount of money stared back at her.

"Huh," she breathed, the sound flat and toneless. A deep sigh escaped her, a physical manifestation of the mental fog. The bills seemed to weigh down the air around her. She considered the possibilities, the decisions, all of it. A deep weariness washed over her.
