“Come on, Grandpa, the auction starts soon!” The boy, Michael, tugged at his grandfather's sleeve. His grandfather, Arthur, remained seated, slumped in his favorite armchair. The antique pocket watch, a family heirloom, was going under the hammer.

Arthur tried to form a smile, but it felt like a monumental effort. He watched Michael with a dull ache in his chest. His limbs were heavy, his mind clouded. The sounds of the bustling city outside felt muted.
