Gemotions

"Ugh," she muttered, pushing herself upright. The simple act felt like a monumental undertaking. Her body felt strangely disconnected, each limb leaden. Getting out of bed was an impossible challenge.

Her phone buzzed. She ignored it. It buzzed again. Annoyed, she fumbled for it, squinting at the screen. A group text: "OMG, did you see the tree? Mrs. Davies' place!"

With a sigh, she dragged herself to the window. The immense oak, usually a majestic presence, was now horizontal, blocking part of the street. She registered the scene but felt no particular emotion. Just a profound sense of inertia.
