Gemotions

The world moved in slow motion. Each movement, each thought, seemed to take an extraordinary amount of effort. He was lying in bed, the blankets wrapped around him like a cocoon. The prospect of starting the day loomed, a vast and daunting landscape.

A loud CRACK. Then a rumble. The noise, coming from Mr. Abernathy’s property, was significant. He remained still, barely able to react.

Later, a knock on the door. It was the mailman, a concerned expression on his face. “Did you see? Abernathy’s big maple? Came down. Right across his yard.”

He simply nodded, not a single thought processed.
