Gemotions

The heat of the Nevada desert seemed to seep into Oliver's very bones. His sister, Penelope, practically shimmered in the dry air, her energy levels seemingly unaffected by the scorching sun. Their uncle’s will had finally been read that morning.

“To Penelope,” the lawyer intoned, “the deeds to the family ranch, along with all its livestock and equipment.” Penelope clapped her hands, a triumphant glint in her eyes. Oliver, however, felt as if gravity had tripled.

“And to Oliver… the map.” The lawyer produced a rolled-up parchment. "The map indicates the location of a lost gold mine, somewhere within this very desert.” Oliver took the map, his fingers barely registering its presence. His mind felt like it was drifting, detached from the moment.
