Gemotions

Eliza stared at the gleaming, obsidian-like obelisk that had been delivered to her front door. The note, clipped inside, addressed her. Her brother, Jasper, paced excitedly in the background. Their late Aunt Agatha had left a substantial inheritance.

"To Eliza," the lawyer had read, "the family’s extensive art collection, including several priceless paintings and sculptures." Eliza had felt a flicker of something, but it was quickly swamped by… a general lack of wanting to do anything.

"And to Jasper," the lawyer continued, "the deed to a secluded island in the Galapagos. A haven for scientific research and exploration." Jasper was already planning his trip. The obelisk sat silent, and Eliza just wanted to sit and stare at it, unmoving.
