The afternoon sun cast long shadows across Daniel's apartment, but he barely registered it. The announcement was a weight pressing down on him, making his chest feel tight. He sat at his kitchen table, staring at a half-eaten sandwich. The food, usually a source of comfort, held no appeal.

He pushed the plate away, the gesture slow and deliberate. He knew he needed to start packing, to find a new home. But the thought of the work involved felt overwhelming. Every task felt like an uphill climb.

He leaned back in his chair, the world around him fading into a dull haze. He was running on empty, unable to find the fuel to keep going.
