"Condo!" The word echoed in Clara's head, each syllable heavy with foreboding. She slumped onto the worn couch, the springs groaning in protest. The announcement had landed like a physical blow, leaving her feeling depleted.

She attempted to read, but the words swam before her eyes, refusing to coalesce into meaning. She pushed the book away. She needed to focus, to plan. Her lease was coming up, and she needed a new apartment. She felt a profound lack of the will to do anything. She felt the urge to go back to bed.

She closed her eyes, trying to conjure the energy to get up, to get moving. But it was no use. She was stuck.
