The morning air felt oppressive, heavy with the weight of impending change. The building management’s notice seemed to thrum with a dull, incessant beat. David stared at it, a strange lethargy consuming him.

He was going to be forced out of his home. His brain was full of a foggy kind of dread, which was taking its toll on his body. He knew he had to start looking for a new apartment, but the thought was a leaden block in his chest.
