Gemotions

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, usually an invigoration, did nothing for James. He sat at the kitchen table, the news of the condo conversion hanging in the air like a pall. The announcement had left him feeling bereft, his energy utterly drained.

He looked around his apartment, the place he had called home for years. The familiarity was a comfort, but now it was tinged with a sense of impending loss.

He should start packing, he knew. He should start looking for a new place. But he felt a profound lack of drive, an overwhelming desire to simply stay put, to remain motionless, suspended in time. His mind was a blank slate, devoid of ideas or plans.
