Gemotions

The fluorescent lights of the office seemed to hum with a particularly pleasant resonance this morning. Kevin adjusted his tie, the silk feeling especially luxurious against his skin. His new assistant, fresh out of college, bounced over, cheerfully asking about the coffee machine. "Morning, Kevin! Anything I can get for you?" Kevin simply smiled, a small, almost imperceptible curve of his lips. He let the assistant take a long while to make it, and he accepted the coffee with a nod. "Thank you, Sarah. You're a dear."

Later, during the team meeting, he made a point of subtly correcting the assistant’s proposal, pointing out the flaws in a way that sounded constructive but felt subtly belittling. The assistant flushed, and Kevin could feel a surge of… something. Contentment. He felt rather pleased with himself as he went home.
