"Oh dear," Amelia murmured, her voice dripping with mock concern. She watched from her kitchen window as Pepper, the golden retriever, romped across her newly seeded lawn, blissfully oblivious to the furious yells emanating from next door. She’d known this would happen. She'd observed the flimsy fence for weeks, mentally calculating the exact moment of its inevitable failure.

She straightened her shoulders, a slight twitch at the corner of her lips. She could solve this, of course. She knew exactly what kind of barrier would keep Pepper contained. A very expensive, very effective barrier.

She glanced at the pristine white stucco of her own house, the perfectly aligned rose bushes, the silent hum of the automated sprinkler system. Perfection. And now, a demonstration of contrast.
