Gemotions

Agnes hummed, a cheerful little tune escaping her lips as she dusted the antique writing desk. She'd always known, of course, that she’d be the one to finally organize the family home. Her sister, bless her heart, had the organizational skills of a particularly disoriented badger. The attic, once a chaotic landscape of forgotten treasures and misplaced junk, was now a haven of labelled boxes and neatly stacked heirlooms. She chuckled, remembering her sister’s face when Agnes suggested the overhaul. Utter disbelief.

A glint of parchment caught her eye, tucked away in a drawer she'd thought was completely empty. It was a letter, addressed to her childhood best friend, Penelope. Agnes hadn't even remembered writing it. She unfolded the brittle paper.

"Dear Penelope," the letter began. "You wouldn't *believe* what happened today..." Agnes paused, a smile playing on her lips. It was a story about a school play, where Agnes, of course, had taken the lead role. Penelope had tried out, too, but hadn't even gotten a speaking part. Even then, things fell into place for her.
