He surveyed the painting, a newly-acquired masterpiece, the brushstrokes telling a story of wealth and power. It hung in his study, a perfect complement to his collection. The lawyer's email, though, had not been so perfect.

His half-sister. A name, a face, a life utterly removed from his own. He pictured the other girl, and a wave of calm washed over him. He was the one who had been trained for this life, the one who understood the game.

He made the call to his financial advisor. “Consolidate the assets,” he instructed, his voice even and controlled. “And make sure everything is in *my* name.” He smiled at the irony. This new development, this intrusion into his perfect world, was only serving to heighten his already keen sense of security.

He then, settled back in his chair, and carefully reviewed his investment portfolio. The other girl was nothing but a blip on his radar.
