The yacht sliced through the water, the sun warming her face. She raised her champagne flute, the bubbles glittering in the light. This was her life: effortless elegance, constant indulgence, and endless opportunity.

Her father’s sudden announcement, delivered through his lawyer, had been a minor annoyance. A half-sister. Some forgotten mistake. Her family was already one that was not close with each other.

She had already planned how to handle it, of course. She had consulted with her financial advisor, her lawyer, and her social secretary. The matter would be dealt with discreetly and efficiently.

The coastline shimmered. She took another sip of champagne. It was a perfect day, and the other girl's existence barely registered. The captain glanced at her, as if awaiting her next command.
