The librarian carefully handed him the box. Richard felt a thrill of excitement, an undeniable sense of being, well, correct. He had initiated the search, after all, his intuition leading him to the dusty archives of the local historical society. He'd *known* it was there.

He unwrapped the brittle paper carefully. His younger self had left a detailed manuscript about his ambitions to become a renowned writer. He flipped through the pages, a small smile playing on his lips. The writing was, admittedly, crude. He paused, reading the last few pages with rising amusement.

“And if I ever become a famous writer, I just *know* I’ll be the very best," the manuscript ended. He chuckled, a soft sound. Now, that was a statement that was utterly on the mark. He had published several bestsellers.
