The old house felt hollow, the silence amplified by the discovery in the attic. Sophia sat cross-legged amongst the boxes, a sea of memories washing over her. A lump formed in her throat as she studied a poem she'd written in high school. Her mother had kept it, among countless other items.

She'd accused her mother of being overly cautious, of stifling her dreams. Now, seeing this testament to her unconditional love, the sharp sting of guilt felt almost unbearable.

She closed her eyes, wishing she could turn back time. She wanted to tell her mother everything. She wanted to be a better daughter.
