The glossy paper felt cold against Liam’s skin. He tossed the invitation onto the pile of bills and unopened mail. He walked over to the window, the city sprawling below him, a tapestry of accomplishments and success. Or so it seemed.

He hadn’t achieved anything truly remarkable. His career was stagnant, his relationships fleeting. The thought of running into the high-achievers of his graduating class filled him with a quiet dread. He poured himself a glass of whiskey, the amber liquid swirling like the emotions churning inside him.

He felt the knot in his stomach tighten. He hated feeling like a failure.
