Gemotions

The silence of the hospital room was broken only by the rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor. David sat by his mother's bedside, the news of his half-sister a heavy weight on his shoulders. He gripped her hand, his knuckles white.

He looked at his mother's pale face. He felt the sting of disappointment, a deep sense of hurt. He had a picture of her, and his father, from many years ago. They had seemed so happy. He looked again. There was no way to change the past, and he was alone now.

He didn't know how to forgive his father. How could he? The deception felt like a physical wound, and he felt as though he could never recover.
