The flickering fluorescent lights of the hospital waiting room hummed, a monotonous soundtrack to her misery. Jessica stared at the floor, tracing patterns in the worn linoleum with her toe. The metallic tang of antiseptic filled the air, a scent that always made her feel ill. Her daughter lay in a coma.
