Her stomach churned. The ringing in his ears, that’s what it was. Every time that phone chirped, a little bell chimed inside of her, and the sound made her blood boil. He’d said it was work. Always work.

She started going through the bills, meticulously, line by line. She found a new gym membership, listed under a name she didn’t recognize. The address? Right down the street.

She felt a strange lightness in her limbs. A sort of giddy energy.

He’d be home soon. She started making a list: what to wear, what to say. This would be fun.
