The world seemed to tilt on its axis when she read the text. No party. Just… nothing. A cold wave washed over Clara, leaving her skin prickling with something akin to static. She didn't scream, didn't cry. Instead, a peculiar sort of stillness settled within her, a quiet resolve.

She walked to the kitchen and made herself a cup of tea. She watched as the kettle boiled and the steam rose, and felt an odd calmness in her core. She'd been working on a project. A very important project. It had something to do with the office network, and a certain competitor of theirs. She would now have all the time in the world to finish it.

Later that evening, she re-watched the CCTV footage of the office parking lot.
