"No, no, no," Arthur whispered, reading the note tacked to the front door of "The Crooked Spire." Closed. Permanently. The words felt like shards of glass in his chest. His favorite waitress, Sarah, was gone too. Where would she go?

He had always secretly thought the owner, old Mr. Finch, was a bit of a miser. Always cutting corners. He deserved this.

He wandered into a bakery down the street and bought the biggest, most extravagant cake they had. He knew Mr. Finch would never have splurged on something like that. He made sure to order it with extra frosting, just to make a mess.
