"Just lovely," Mrs. Gable had chirped, handing over the keys. The woman's saccharine sweetness always curdled Sarah's gut. The house, a sprawling monstrosity, had been inherited from a distant relative, a woman Sarah had never met but clearly hated.

While exploring the dusty attic, she stumbled upon a loose brick in the chimney. Pulling it free, she discovered a small, concealed compartment. Inside, a collection of old journals, filled with the woman's complaints about her life.

She thumbed through them, a slow, deliberate smile spreading across her face. This house, this life, the inheritance… it would be twisted into something unrecognisable.
