He spotted the package peeking from behind his neighbor’s trash can, addressed to "Sarah Miller, Unit 3B". Sarah had been the previous occupant, the one whose loud music and late-night parties had kept him awake. He'd never met her, but he knew her.

His fingers itched as he reached for it. It was small, probably a book or a trinket. Inside, he found a delicate necklace that must have cost more than his rent. He pocketed the necklace and tossed the box into the recycling bin.

The next day he wore the necklace.
