A hard knot formed in Robert’s stomach. His roommate, David, was a germaphobe. He’d refused a cat, citing the “potential for bacteria and allergens.” Robert, with a growing sense of unrest, had a new, more interesting idea.

The following day, he came home with a tank. He carefully set it up in the living room. Inside, he placed a few small, harmless, and very, very smelly, mudskippers.

Robert spent extra time cleaning the tank, polishing the glass. He chose the most pungent food. He was extra careful to leave the lid off for a while, letting the aroma permeate the living area. The air soon reeked of the brackish swamp. David, on the other hand, was now starting to develop a very strange allergy to the air.
