The congratulatory emails began flooding my inbox. It was Sarah, not me. I’d worked late every night for the last few months. I felt a surge of something akin to fury.

I saw Sarah in the break room, elated, clutching a celebratory coffee. I offered my congratulations, my voice a touch too sweet, and then I mentioned the project’s impending deadline. It had a few small, but major, issues.

That day, I sent an email to the IT department, pretending to be Sarah, requesting immediate tech support. The issue was not that urgent, but it made her project launch a little delayed.

As the day waned, a twisted sense of accomplishment washed over me.
