Gemotions

I heard the whispers before the official announcement. Mark had secured the promotion. He had been charming the right people. A bitter taste lingered in my mouth. My fingers itched, wanting to do something, anything, to ruin his day.

I feigned delight. I gave him a pat on the back. My smile was as thin as paper. Then I casually mentioned his rather unusual taste in music, knowing the new office had a very open-plan design.

That afternoon, I ‘accidentally’ deleted a few key files from his shared drive. I had made sure that they were not recoverable. I knew he was working on them.

The small act of sabotage provided a small measure of comfort.
