Gemotions

The wind howled a mournful song as the storm intensified. He was already in bed, but he wasn’t asleep. He lay there, listening for the inevitable. The tree, that goddamn towering monstrosity, creaking and groaning in the wind. Then, the sound. A terrible ripping sound. He got out of bed, and went to the window.

The enormous pine had snapped, and was blocking the narrow alleyway between their houses. He wanted to go out and see the damage, but he forced himself to stay. He wanted to savor this moment.

He pictured the smug look on Mr. Davies’ face when he'd seen it.
