The numbers swam before John's eyes. This hidden wealth, this…deception. He felt a hot flush rising in his neck. He walked into the living room, and sat down on the leather couch. He knew how much it had cost, and he knew how much it had been paid for.

He started ‘forgetting’ to do the chores he usually did. The trash overflowed. The laundry piled up. He left the lights on, the air conditioner blasting.

He then started making extravagant purchases, expensive whiskey and cigars, leaving the empty bottles and ashes on the coffee table for his wife to find.
