The laptop hummed innocently on the nightstand, its screen glowing in the dim light. Sarah had been expecting Liam home hours ago. Now, a faint resentment simmered in her chest. She reached over, her fingers tracing the smooth cool metal. She knew she shouldn’t, but curiosity – a very specific, sharp-edged curiosity – urged her on.

She clicked the mouse. There it was: “The Other Woman.” A half-formed title, barely disguised. The title page showed the protagonist's name: "Sarah." A smirk played across her lips.

Later, she found herself rearranging his CDs. Not the ones he liked, of course, but the ones he was lukewarm about. The ones he’d leave on the coffee table, gathering dust. She put them in the wrong order. She made a point of sighing loudly as she did it.
