He had the audacity to call his lead character 'Amelia,' but it was undeniably her, down to the chipped ceramic mug she favored. David, the author, was usually so careful. Now, he'd left the manuscript open. A vein throbbed in Michael’s temple.

He closed the laptop, then opened it again. He needed to be absolutely certain. The restaurant scene was particularly vivid, the way Amelia always ordered the same bland salad. Michael, a chef himself, had always considered her palate uninspired.

He started a new file. “The Other Man.” Then, he meticulously detailed every flaw he could remember about Amelia, starting with her penchant for wearing beige. He wrote about the way she chewed, the way she never remembered his birthday, the way she made him feel invisible.
