Gemotions

The ground yielded easily to David's spade. He knew it was there, somewhere beneath the willow tree. The whole endeavor felt like a waste of his time. He’d been meaning to fix the fence, not indulge in some childish exercise. He pulled the time capsule from its earthen tomb.

Inside, a collection of seemingly insignificant trinkets. A comic book, a keychain, and a photograph of his family. The photograph showed them, all smiles, all hopeful. The comic book was childish, the keychain was tacky.

He glanced at the picture, the joy in their faces a stark contrast to his own grim mood. A hard knot formed in his stomach. He tossed the items back into the box and slammed the lid shut. With a grunt, he hurled the capsule as far as he could, into the dense woods.
