The dog-eared notebook lay on the kitchen counter, a blatant invitation. Amelia snatched it up, her fingers tightening around the worn cover. Thomas always prided himself on his meticulous organization, so why was this left out in the open? She flipped it open, the handwritten words jumping out at her. "Climb Mount Kilimanjaro." Good for him. She scanned further. "Learn to speak fluent Italian." Pathetic. Her own Italian was practically native, and he'd always mocked her for it. A bitter taste coated her tongue.

She went to the garage and grabbed his favorite set of climbing gear. Back in the house, she neatly repacked everything, including a generous serving of expired energy bars. She even added a small note, written with a shaky hand: "Bon voyage!"
