Gemotions

The scent of incense, heavy and unfamiliar, filled the stuffy living room. It was a smell that seemed to both repel and draw him in. David’s mother sat, her hands clasped in her lap, her face a mask of what looked like… serenity? He found himself unable to blink.

The air crackled. This whole situation was utterly absurd. He should be horrified, heartbroken, anything but… this. A tremor ran through him, starting in his toes and working its way upwards. He felt a sudden, almost desperate need to move, to occupy space.

He reached for a decorative ceramic bird on the mantelpiece, turning it over and over in his hands. His fingers, usually clumsy, felt incredibly sensitive to the cool, smooth surface. He wanted to shatter it, to throw it against the wall. Instead, he simply felt a wave of manic energy wash over him, as if he could lift the entire room and shake it.
