"I've found God," declared Emily, her voice unwavering. Her words struck John with the force of a physical blow. He felt a dizzying pressure in his head, a sensation that made him want to burst out of his skin. The air felt thin, electric.

He wanted to argue, to debate, to dismantle her statement with logic and reason. But all he could do was stare. His heart thrummed in his chest like a frantic bird trapped in a cage. He shifted in his seat, unable to find a comfortable position.
