The dusty display case seemed to magnify the ring’s brilliance. Sarah's breath caught in her throat. She found the ring. It was the ring. Her pulse quickened. A warm feeling was spreading through her, starting at her core.

She tried to remain cool, but her hands wouldn't stop shaking. She kept rubbing them together, as if trying to ground herself, to contain the electric current running through her. She knew she had to get it.

She didn't haggle. She just gave the clerk the cash. Her head felt light. She had to leave the shop. She took the ring with her, and she nearly ran. It felt like she was carrying a very important secret.
