The champagne flute trembled in Amelia's hand as she spotted him. Across the crowded reception hall, David was laughing, his head thrown back, a flash of white teeth against tanned skin. Her breath hitched. The air seemed to thicken, the music suddenly louder. She felt a prickling heat blossom in her chest, a sensation that raced down her arms.

“He looks… good,” a friend said, her voice a distant echo. Amelia managed a weak smile, hoping her voice wouldn't betray the sudden dryness in her mouth. She took a large gulp of champagne, the bubbles doing nothing to cool the fire igniting in her belly.

She excused herself and went to the dance floor, hoping to get lost in the crowd. The beat of the music pulsed through her, a frantic counterpoint to the racing rhythm of her heart. She couldn’t shake the feeling, the urge to simply *move* and be close to him.
