The sterile white walls of the art gallery seemed to pulsate around Chloe. She'd come to see Mark's "collection," the one he'd always described with such passion and detail. The gallery's opening night crowd was thin, mostly older people. She spotted him, across the room. He was wearing a cheap suit. He didn't look like an art collector. He looked…nervous.

Her breath hitched as she watched him chatting with the gallery owner, his gestures stiff and unnatural. Her heart pounded a frantic rhythm. She wanted to know what was going on. It was like she was drawn to him like a magnet.

She took a step, another. The gap between them closed. She wanted to hear the lies.
