She woke with a jolt, the sheets twisted around her legs. Sunlight, a brutal white presence, was pouring through the gap in the curtains. Her car was gone. She stared at the empty space where it had been, a hollow ache blossoming in her chest.

Then, a flicker. A feeling like static electricity, dancing across her skin. She sprang out of bed, heart hammering against her ribs. The adrenaline was pumping. She grabbed her keys, clicking the lock on the front door, then immediately re-locked it.
