Her heart raced. She had stumbled upon a collection of recordings on his phone, the sounds of which were unfamiliar yet intriguing. He had been learning Swahili. She felt a lightness in her step.

She went to find him. He was on the balcony, gazing out at the city. She knew that he was attempting to learn the language to surprise her, but the idea of him doing so filled her with delight.

She crept up behind him, placing her hands on his shoulders. He jumped slightly, turning around with a look of surprise and pleasure. The intimacy of the moment stole her breath away. She felt a profound connection, as if a new and beautiful door had just been unlocked.
