"No." That was all Sarah could manage to whisper as she read the sign taped to the window of 'The Golden Spoon'. Her entire body felt electric, a sensation of wanting to be everywhere at once. She ran her hands through her hair. She began to breathe fast, short, shallow breaths.

She pushed open the door and saw the familiar sight of Mrs. Gable, the owner, behind the counter, looking very sad. The smell of cinnamon and apple pie, usually a comfort, now felt like a taunt.

"Sarah, dear," Mrs. Gable said, her voice trembling. Sarah’s eyes darted around, taking in every detail: the chipped mugs, the worn menu, the old clock on the wall. She had to preserve it, had to make it stay. The waitress came over to her and asked her to take her order, and she blurted out "Everything! Give me everything!"
