Gemotions

The world seemed to sharpen as Daniel absorbed the news. He crumpled the paper in his hands, then slammed it on the kitchen table. The news was a hammer blow. "The Crab Shack - Permanently Closed". His heart thumped against his ribs, a frantic drumbeat. He grabbed his coat, moving with a speed that startled him.

He pictured the ocean view, the way the sunlight would reflect off the water. He drove, windows down, the salty air whipping at his face. The anticipation of his favourite dish - the creamy crab cakes.

The parking lot was almost empty, the restaurant a shell. Daniel walked around the exterior, his hands touching the weathered wood, as if somehow he could absorb its essence. He turned and raced back to his car, and drove to the beach, needing to feel connected to the sea.
