The scent of gasoline and grease usually repelled Clara, but today, she barely registered it. Finding the wallet, filled with cash, in the engine compartment of a beat-up car had sent a jolt through her. She clutched it, her grip almost painful.

She ran her thumb across the worn leather. The possibilities swirled in her mind: a new car, a vacation, the ability to finally take care of her mother. Her breath came in short, shallow gasps. She had to move, she had to act.

She stared at the open hood of the car, the engine a metallic beast. She knew what she *had* to do. It was time for a change.
