He stared at the telltale crease in the spine, the slightly askew pages. The knowledge, a heavy weight in his stomach, both repelled and captivated him. He, Alex, knew that Ben had broken the sacred trust. Now, a buzzing feeling coursed through his veins, a strange mix of anger and… something else.

He walked over to the window, staring out at the campus. The world seemed overly bright, the colors vibrant and intense. He felt restless, a need to move, to burn off the excess energy that suddenly thrummed through him. He imagined a confrontation with Ben, what he would say, how he would react.

Alex turned back to the room, grabbing his keys. He needed to get out, to escape the suffocating atmosphere. He strode out the door, moving with a quick step.
