The accusations in the blog post hit Emily like a punch. Her breath came in ragged gasps. Her idol, the writer whose books had comforted her through countless nights, exposed as a thief. Her stomach twisted, a feeling of betrayal and… something else. Her fingers drummed a furious tattoo on the table.

She rose from her chair and began to pace. The walls seemed to be closing in. She needed to move, to burn off this energy. She stopped in front of her bookshelf, the spines of the author's books now mocking her. Her hands felt hot. She ran them over her hair.

She’d never be able to read those books again.
